Lavender is perhaps the best-known essential oil of all, needing very little introduction at all. The floral, woody scent has been used for generations to encourage relaxation and deep sleep.
Indeed, lavender is named after the Latin word “lavere” meaning “to wash” because the Romans reportedly added it to their bathing water to unwind at the end of the day.
However, there’s rather more to producing lavender essential oil than you might initially realise.
There are two main constituents of lavender that are believed to directly impact not just the scent but also the beneficial properties. These go by the names of “linalool” and “linalyl”, but levels may vary between plants depending on growing conditions, processing methods and more.
The highest-quality lavender essential oils like ours carefully blend these two constituents to ensure an identical ratio in every bottle. This is sometimes known within the industry as a “40/42” blend.
Lavender 40/42 is considered superior because of how consistent and reliable it is to use. This perfect balance between linalool and linalyl also makes it the ideal option for those looking to use lavender oil in cosmetics.
The lavender we use in our lavender essential oil is grown in France to the highest standards, with a focus on sustainable growing practices and minimal environmental impact.
